There is a lot that needs to be
booked when talking about vendors. All weddings need to obviously be at a
venue, so you need to make sure the venue you choose is a the perfect one for
you and your husband! Once you choose a venue, sometimes they may refer you to
preferred vendors that they have previously worked with that they enjoy. They
may even refer you to ones that other people have used in the past that they
know also do well.
You need to remember to book your
chair, table, and linen rentals from somewhere. Sometimes your venue may
provide tables already, which is super nice! They may even provide some linens,
but they usually only have ivory and black or white. If you are looking for any
specialty linens or unique colors, you will want to book through a different
rental company. They also should offer different style tables, harvest tables
for example. The chairs can either be the normal banquet chairs that may
already be available through your venue or the rental company should have white
resins, chiavari, or regular plastic folding chairs. What is nice about renting
these things from somewhere separate from your venue is that there are so many
different choices and you can get the exact look you are looking for.
The next think you will need to
do is remember to get a florist and go in and pick our all of your bouquets, boutonnieres,
centerpieces, and miscellaneous floral décor items. They should have a booklet
that you can look through and explain the exact type of look you are searching
for. An important thing to remember is that you need to ask them if they will
be the ones setting the flowers up or if someone else will need to. I have ran
into problems in the past where the floral may have hinted that they will set
up something for the bride, but they never did and the aunt had to be the one
setting it up, and they were no expert in that type of work so it was very
difficult. These things just need to be communicated so that everything can get
done right and in an efficient manner.
You will also need to choose a
caterer for your food as well as a bakery for your desserts. When choosing
these things, you will need to consider what type of dinner you will be having
first. If you are having a buffet, I would think about what types of food would
be ideal and easily kept warm. For instance, I would not want to have crab legs
in a buffet. They just would not be kept as fresh in a buffet line as they
would if they were being served to each specific table. Another thing to keep
in mind is their reputation. If you have heard bad things about their service
if they are serving people, you may not want them to cater for you wedding
since they will be serving your family and friends on your special wedding day.
When choosing a bakery for desserts, you will want to keep in mind what types
of desserts you are wanting to have. If it is just a large cake that will be
cut and served for your guests, this can usually be chosen pretty quickly if you
know exactly what you want. On the other hand, if you are wanting some other
desserts, you may want to choose a bakery that is known for other things as
well, such as cupcakes, cookies, etc. so that you can get them all from one
place. The reason this is important is so that the communication is easier. If
you are ordering your desserts from 3 different places, it may be hard to keep
communicating between all of them coordinating who is bringing what, and when
they are all arriving, etc.
You also will need to pick out a
photographer and videographer. The important thing to keep in mind when
choosing these vendors is to not choose someone that you are close to and are
friends with. These are the people who are keeping your wedding going and
snapping photos of you all, and if they are communicating with everyone and
chatting away, your photos will take ten times longer than they need to. With
this being your wedding day, you want someone who will be quick, efficient, and
understanding that you just want the photos to be done so you can enjoy the day
with your special family and friends.
Choosing a DJ will be the next
step, and this can become pretty interesting! You want to choose someone that you
trust and know that they will keep the night going with their fun and explosive
attitude. If they are very bland and uninteresting, they may not be the one for
you. You want a fun DJ/ entertainer so that you can trust they will keep everyone
smiling and dancing all night long. You also want someone who cares about your
interests and wants. If you say that you want people to be on their feet and
dancing the whole night, then the DJ better be doing their best to make that
happen for you- because after all, it is YOUR day. You want someone who will
respect your music choices and reflect that in the music they play for you.
These things can make or break a good DJ!
The last thing you will need is a
hair stylist and make up artist for your special day. Choosing these shouldn’t
be too hard but a good way to do so is to go in for “mock” trials. If you
choose an artist and what they give you is just absolutely horrible, then you
may not want to continue to use them and maybe use someone else. These are easy
fixes, and you can do it so quickly!
There are many things that go
into choosing vendors for a wedding, and these are just a few of the special
ideas that you should have going into meetings with them so you can ensure that
you make the right decisions.
